Did You Know?3

This photo is of the necklace I mentioned in my first Blog Post.  It was worn by several different characters: Ben Snow in Island in the Desert, a Vigilante Indian in Hawk, Breed wears it in Whelan's Men, and Jude Bonner in Hostage!

Sometimes people ask if Miss Kitty's beauty mark/mole was real or not.  The answer is a resounding NOT!  The beauty mark/mole first appeared in S1 E27 "Cooter."  From then on, she was never without it except for one night-time scene in Cara E36.

Did you know that this framed piece of artwork appears in Gunsmoke a total of 38 times, 19 of which are in Doc's office?  It shows up in Miss Kitty's office as well.  It is called Pharaoh's Horses.  You can still buy it today.

Did you know there are two occasions in which Miss Kitty calls Doc "Curly?"  She does that in Kitty-Cornered and Matt's Love Story.

How about this one....ever notice that Matt says "Hold it" a lot?  Ever wonder how many times?  Well, I did, and I counted twice.  Matt says "Hold it" 292 times in the series!

Now, let's talk about this fella.  I kept noticing this horse with the spot throughout the series, so I decided to count his appearances, and I was shocked!  I don't know the horse's real name, but I call him Spot Augustus.  He is a sorrell with four white socks, and he has a look-alike companion only without the spot.  He is ridden by friend and foe alike.  Jude Bonner in Hostage, and Mason Gore in Seven Hours to Dawn both rode him, as well as Thad, Newly and Chester.  He seems to show up everywhere.  I counted 76 appearances of this horse in the series.  Congrats Spot Augustus!!!

One more Gunsmoke fact for you here today.  I wondered how many people died on the show during air time.  I started counting, and this includes all deaths that occurred during the airing of the show--for example, if an episode starts and folks are dead from an Indian massacre, I did not count those.  This includes all types of deaths, whether shot, sickness, snakebite or natural.  I counted 1,255 deaths in the whole series.
